Too early to do a review – it seems that AliExpress will have the new Huawei Band 6 (GLOBAL) this week to I’m guessing that means we outside of China won’t be able to actually get one for maybe 3 weeks – and I’ve seen nothing yet about the Xiaomi Band 6 GLOBAL version (otherwise I’d be wearing it). As far as I’m aware, similarly they’re still only handling the Chinese market.
Of course you would expect Huawai to try to jump the gun as they did last time – but in several respects, the Huawei Band 5 wasn’t a patch on the Xiaomi Mi 5 band – the former has only a few preset watch faces where the latter has an almost infinite supply.
This time around, the goal-posts seem to have changed however, the Mi6 will have a much better (rounded, not curved) display with a most welcome lack of wasted space on the top and bottom of the face area due to a custom, rounded display. It will I believe also have SpO2 monitoring. On the other hand, Huawei it seems, have conceded that Mi have the monopoly on watchfaces and have instead gone for the following: new CURVED display and built-in BT5.3 earbud. While the latter is not new, I’ve seen that on other, cheaper bands, up to now they have all sounded AWFUL. It will be interesting to see what Huawei have come up with.
To be sure, both bands are a little more pricey but still reasonable. I hope to have something more substancial real soon. The Huawei band will also apparently let me know when I’m fertile (good luck with that).
For now I can only dream and decide which way to go – here in Spain no sign of the new Xiaomi product at all as yet. Meanwhile, I just keep adding new watchfaces to my Xiaomi Mi band 5 from the many available. I like my Mi band and it’s straps but I must say the add-on magnetic bands are a tad rough-cut and the standard band has a tendancy to slip off. It will be interesting to see how the Huawei compares.
