This one came out of the blue – the company (naenka.com – I’d never heard of them before) contacted me and asked if I’d write about their earbuds. As always “only if you send a set – no conditions”. Ok, so they did and days later, a set of buds turned up.
If anyone can be bothered to check the blog back over the years, I’ve reviewed LOTS of earbuds and headsets. I must be honest I’ve not bothered recently as I’m more than happy with my Gravatar earbuds… mainly as they hold their charge, the case is utterly amazing to look at and they sound good.
The OE Mix buds come in a sleek charger case with a UB-C lead for charging – and a simple indicator on the front of the case.
I’ve been wearing these new OE Mix buds all morning – mostly while working and NOT listening to anything – that should give you an idea of comfort… I’ve never had a set that hang over the back of the ear before and I’m not really noticing the overhang. Of course, checking out earbuds is always a good excuse to listen to Alicia Keys – Spiderman… great song, great singer (I realise not everyone will agree).
Weight is 6.7gm.
I’m not one for reading manuals but when I started pressing on the earbuds and (apparently) nothing happened – I thought I’d consult the manual. There are 2 indents on the outside of each earbud – power button and indicator light – all very simple.
The buds are BT 5.4 – which might help account for lack of noticeable delays – a pet peeve of mine with earlier earbuds.
The manual cleared everything up: long-press the button for 4 seconds = power on/off. Long-press for 1.5 seconds = reject incoming call, triple-tap the button – voice wake-up, triple tap again = voice-off, quadruple-tap = music/game mode – the list goes on.
I guess I’d better keep the “manual” with me for a while… single-tap right for volume up, single tap left for volume down. “maxim volume” it sounded like to me. Oh well, nothing’s perfect and that really is trivial. Maximum volume is … loud enough … and the sound is crystal clear with my Samsung S22 Ultra phone.
As a life-long glasses wearer, I wasn’t sure about the overhang and my glasses – but I’m not noticing anything new. The buds don’t seem to make an anywhere near airtight seal but that doesn’t stop them sounding good.
I can’t yet vouch for this but the buds are supposed to be IPX5 waterproof.
Anyway if you want to know more – here’s the official link. And a discount link – just to clarify: I don’t get anything out of it. https://bit.ly/3TbiOhk 15% off special code: PeterScargill15
