TOPGRO Mini Gaming PC i9-9880H NVIDIA GTX1650

I recently bought the above-named PC from Amazon.es to replace my Mini PC which has performed well but not a lot of use for games. The TOPGRO machine cost me €969 (no screen or keyboard, just the base unit) and came complete with 32GB of DDR4 RAM and 1TB of solid-state storage. The pretty lights at the front of the unit developed a fault weeks after purchase but the comany readily volunteered to send a replacement light panel FOC without any hassle.

For spec, the PC has WiFi6E, BT 5.3, 1Gbps LAN, 2*standard-size HDMI, 1* USB-C and 6 general USB outputs. It came complete with Windows 11 Pro. I’ve since added a 2TB SSD internally for game and media storage and up to now can’t fault it (update October 2024 – the 2TB HD failed – can’t blame the PC for that). The device came complete with impressive colour-changing LED lighting, though from day one I could find no way to alter the lights (changing to a static colour might have been nice). A week after finishing this write-up I turned the machine off at night with a short press of the front button – and turned it on this morning the same way. Working fine but no lights…. I power-cycled it – again no lights (just the blue light on the front panel button).

When I opened the box (2 simple screws) to add in a second SSD, and realising I’d lost the little manual that came with the PC, I emailed the company and they were quick to point me to the online PDF. I then connected my SSD internally with the supplied leads and realised their diagram didn’t seem to 100% match the connector location on my machine – again they were quick to help and it’s all upgraded and running. That’s what prompted me to do this short write-up and video. I’m sure suppliers other than Amazon will have these but I was lucky and got an instant Amazon discount – good timing I guess.

October 2024 update – the second display failed eventually – so I put my own WLED-driven WS2812b display in – 12 LED strip (they put a nice diffuser at the front of the original display – I left that in place – complete with tiny ESP8266 board (Wemos-D1 type) – here’s a short video…
